Inclusive Access: An Inclusive Design Approach to Digital Accessibility Skills Training
While working as an accessibility consultant on digital accessibility and AODA compliance, I evaluated current practices in workplace accessibility training for overall effectiveness, cost, and inclusive approach to instruction. My ethnographic review led to a new design approach for accessibility training that aims to reduce barriers to access, while increasing retention and understanding. Using adult learning theory and a constructivist model for skill building, I proposed a training design that utilises topic-based, guided video segments that were uploaded to YouTube for public view. While the content’s exposure was lower than expected, feedback collected indicates that there is an appetite for a more innovative approach to accessibility training. http://openresearch.ocadu.ca/id/eprint/1678/
